My Two Cents on Freebies

Good morning my Lovelies! It’s Sunday, the first weekend of the month and I am once again playing catch up on my writing commitments! Today, I intended to do the first article in the series “How to Become a Successful Indie Author.” However, in true RRR, pantser fashion, my mind had other plans and has taken a detour to another topic. So today, I’m giving you my two cents on Freebies!

So, if you follow me on socials (which I hope you do, and if you don’t I’m @roseraynerivers on every platform so go check me out and let’s be friends 🥰). Anyway, if you follow me, you know I’ve been doing this #authoraugust23 challenge for the last 6 days. It has a new prompt each day that introduces authors to their audience and helps authors make new author friends to commiserate with. They’re things like “Introduce yourself/your work,” “Plotter, Pantser, Plantser,” “Do you read aloud,” etc.

So yesterday's prompt was “Where are you?” You were supposed to share your word count, and for me, it was a real awakening. I chose to share the word count of my novella, which I’ve said, hope to have published by the end of the summer. A romance novella (which mine is) typically has a word count of 10-40K words. My goal is about 20-25K, and when I shared my word count yesterday it was 9227.

This was an eye opener for me, because that’s less than half of my intended end goal, and I have just over a month until the last day of summer (Sept 22). So I committed to writing all day yesterday (for the most part, in between all my real-life responsibilities). And as of right this minute I sit at 12,337! (Yay me!).

Now I know I might still not make it, because just writing the words isn’t enough to publish. I still have to go through betas, editing, design a cover, etc. But I’m closer! And I am really closing in on wrapping it up.

Which brings me to my topic of the day, My Two Cents on Freebies. If you’re already a member of my newsletter, thank you SO much! I have been entering you all in free book giveaways all year long. I do a drawing each month (July’s will be posted shortly, btw), but I haven’t really talked about why I’m doing this.

It might sound stupid simple, but let’s talk about it anyway…

Giving away free stuff (or discounts) is a tried and proven marketing method for getting people to sign up for your newsletter. And for those of you pessimists, you’re probably already onto my next point, and I’ll preface this by saying you’re right. Having subscribers doesn’t always translate to them reading your blog, or buying your books. But, sometimes it does! I am also a consumer, a book lover, and I subscribe to dozens of author newsletters. And I have been enticed to buy an author's new release by their newsletter more than once. So my point is having people subscribe to your newsletter is a paramount part to gaining loyal readers. It’s not the only way, but it’s a big one.

Now you might be wondering how these two disparate stories connect. Why did I start out by talking about my novella for half the blog, then switch to freebies? Well, you might’ve guessed it… I’m going to be giving away 2-dozen FREE copies of my novella!

The catch?

You just have to be a subscriber

Earning an entry into the drawing for a free signed copy of Irish Whiskey simply means becoming a subscriber AND following me on social media! It’s that easy! And trust me, Irish Whiskey is 🔥🔥🔥 so you aren’t going to want to miss it!

All month long I’m going to have ways to earn extra entries (even for my current subscribers) including encouraging friends to sign up by tagging them in promos about it on social media. And participating in the #authoraugust23 by commenting on my posts, or playing along and tagging me in yours!

August is going to be a month of growth for RRR, I can feel it. So get onboard and don’t miss the opportunity to win your FREE copy of Irish Whiskey.

And that’s it folks! That’s my two cents on Freebies! It was short and simple, but stay tuned for ways to get your free copies!!!

Have a great week!

XOXO

-Rose Rayne Rivers
